Outbreak of the Hundred Years' WarIn 1337, a prolonged conflict known as the Hundred Years' War broke out between England and France over territorial disputes and a claim to the French throne. The war, intermittent over more than a century, ended with a French victory and the recovery of most English-held territories on the continent.
Outbreak of the War of the Two PetersIn 1356, the War of the Two Peters broke out between Castile and Aragon over succession claims, lasting over a decade. The conflict pitted Peter I of Castile, backed by England, against Peter IV of Aragon, backed by France. Part of the Hundred Years' War, it also involved Navarre and Portugal.

Construction of Charles Bridge BeginsIn 1357, King Charles IV of Bohemia ordered the construction of a stone bridge over the Vltava River in Prague to replace the old Judith Bridge destroyed by a flood. The bridge later became a vital link between the Old Town and Prague Castle, and was the only crossing over the river until 1841, enhancing Prague's role as a trade hub between Eastern and Western Europe.

Founding of the Synagogue of El TránsitoThe Synagogue of El Tránsito was founded in 1357 in Toledo, Spain, by Samuel Halevi Abulafia, treasurer to King Peter of Castile. Renowned for its rich stucco decoration, it is a masterpiece of Mudéjar art. Later repurposed, it now houses a museum.

Red Turban Rebellion beginsThe Red Turban Rebellion was a major uprising against the Mongol-led Yuan dynasty in China, named after the red headscarves worn by the rebels. It began in 1351 with the revolt led by Han Shantong and Liu Futong, leaders of a White Lotus sect, in Hebei and Anhui, and quickly spread. The rebellion lasted nearly two decades, weakening the Yuan state and contributing to its eventual collapse. Rebel factions fought among themselves as well as against Yuan forces. Zhu Yuanzhang joined in 1352, rose to prominence, and in 1368 founded the Ming dynasty.
Founding of Yamagata CastleYamagata Castle, a flatland-style castle also known as Ka-jō, was founded in the mid-14th century in what is now Yamagata City, Japan. It later served as the seat of the daimyō of Yamagata Domain throughout the Edo period. The castle grounds are now a National Historic Site.
West Asia
Outbreak of the Byzantine–Ottoman warsAround 1265, the first of a series of military conflicts broke out between the Byzantine Empire and the emerging Ottoman Empire over Anatolia. This clash initiated a war that lasted over two centuries, ultimately leading to the fall of the Byzantine Empire and the rise of the Ottoman Empire.
