Outbreak of the Hundred Years' WarIn 1337, a prolonged conflict known as the Hundred Years' War broke out between England and France over territorial disputes and a claim to the French throne. The war, intermittent over more than a century, ended with a French victory and the recovery of most English-held territories on the continent.
Battle of NicopolisIn September 1396, an allied Crusader army was routed at Nicopolis by Ottoman forces, lifting the siege. The action is often called the Crusade of Nicopolis and is regarded as one of the last major Crusades of the Middle Ages.
Foundation of the Certosa di PaviaIn 1396, construction began on the Certosa di Pavia, a Carthusian monastery in Lombardy, Northern Italy. Sponsored by the Visconti dukes of Milan, the complex was completed in 1495 and stands as one of the largest monasteries in Italy and a major example of Late Gothic architecture.

Construction of Como Cathedral BeginsIn 1396, construction began on Como Cathedral, the Catholic cathedral of Como in Lombardy, northern Italy. Dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the church is located near Lake Como and is considered one of the most significant buildings in the region. The project lasted for centuries and was finally completed in 1770.

Outbreak of the Byzantine–Ottoman warsAround 1265, the first of a series of military conflicts broke out between the Byzantine Empire and the emerging Ottoman Empire over Anatolia. This clash initiated a war that lasted over two centuries, ultimately leading to the fall of the Byzantine Empire and the rise of the Ottoman Empire.

Founding of the Grand Mosque of BursaIn 1396, Ottoman Sultan Bayezid I commissioned the Grand Mosque of Bursa to commemorate his victory at the Battle of Nicopolis. Built between 1396 and 1399 and designed by architect Ali Neccar, the mosque features twenty domes and two minarets, becoming a landmark of early Ottoman architecture.

Construction of Gassantoda CastleGassantoda Castle is a medieval Japanese mountain castle built in Izumo Province (now Yasugi, Shimane Prefecture) at an unknown date. It was constructed using the ridges and valleys of Mount Gassan and is considered one of the five largest and most important medieval mountain castles in Japan, alongside Kasugayama, Nanao, Odani, and Kannonji castles.
