- Goguryeo–Tang War
Between 645 and 668, Tang China and Silla waged war against Goguryeo. Early Tang invasions were repulsed, but after conquering Baekje in 660, the allies attacked from north and south. The death of Goguryeo's leader Yeon Gaesomun in 666 triggered internal strife; the next year a new invasion, aided by defector Yeon Namsaeng, was launched. In late 668, exhausted by prolonged warfare and internal chaos, Goguryeo fell.

- Founding of the Ōmi Ōtsu Palace
In 667 AD, Emperor Tenchi built the Ōmi Ōtsu Palace in Asuka period Japan, establishing it as the new capital. Located in present-day Ōtsu, Shiga Prefecture, it served as the administrative center of Japan for five years (667–672). During this period, the Ōmi Code and a family registry system were promulgated, laying the foundations for the later ritsuryō state. The site was designated a National Historic Site of Japan in 1979.

- Tang campaigns against the Western Turks
A series of military campaigns conducted by the Tang dynasty against the Western Turkic Khaganate in the 7th century. The conflicts began with Tang interventions in the rivalry between the Eastern and Western Turks to weaken both. Under Emperor Taizong, campaigns were dispatched in the Western Regions against Gaochang in 640, Karasahr in 644 and 648, and Kucha in 648.
