- Deepwater Horizon Explosion and Oil Spill
On 20 April 2010, the BP-operated Deepwater Horizon oil platform suffered a blowout and explosion at the Macondo Prospect in the Gulf of Mexico, resulting in 11 deaths and 17 injuries. The incident caused the largest marine oil spill in petroleum industry history, with the U.S. government estimating a total discharge of 4.9 million barrels. The leak persisted for months, and the well was declared sealed on 19 September 2010; it is widely seen as one of the worst environmental disasters.

Fromelles (Pheasant Wood) Military Cemetery completedThe Fromelles (Pheasant Wood) Military Cemetery, built by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission in Fromelles, northern France, was constructed between 2009 and 2010. It was the first new cemetery by the commission in over 50 years, containing the graves of 250 British and Australian soldiers killed in the Battle of Fromelles in July 1916.

Beginning of Daming Palace ConstructionThe Daming Palace was an imperial palace of the Tang dynasty, with construction starting in the first half of the 7th century. Located northeast of the capital Chang'an, it was the largest among the three main palace complexes of the city. From the reign of Emperor Gaozong, it served as the primary residence and administrative center for Tang emperors for over two centuries. The palace was destroyed by war at the end of the Tang dynasty; its ruins lie in the northern part of present-day Xi'an, Shaanxi Province.

Construction of Bab Berdieyinne Mosque BeginsA mosque in the old city of Meknes, Morocco, built in the early 18th century by order of Khnata bent Bakkar, the first female minister. Constructed of rammed earth, it takes its name from a nearby gate and forms part of the UNESCO-listed medina.
