- Invasion of Ryukyu by Satsuma
In 1609, the Japanese domain of Satsuma invaded the Ryukyu Kingdom, conquered it after months of fighting, and reduced it to a vassal state, ceding the Amami Islands. Ryukyu thereafter became a dual tributary to both Satsuma and Ming China until its annexation by Japan in the 19th century.

Construction of Sasayama CastleSasayama Castle, an early Edo Period Japanese castle, was built around the early 17th century in present-day Tamba-Sasayama, Hyōgo, later serving as the seat of the Sasayama Domain.
